Bruce Johnson

March 19, 1944 — May 18, 2023

Idaho Falls recently Rexbug

Bruce Johnson was born in Idaho Falls, March 19, 1944 to Art and Rula Blatter Johnson. He had a hereditary condition that gradually left him blind so during the teen years, he attended the Idaho State School for the Blind in Boise.

He loved to work with wood and made many beautiful pieces such as dressers, night stands, wall shelves and boxes that he used to store his records and keepsakes in. He also learned to play the piano. He helped his mother at home by doing the dishes and vacuuming, among other chores.

He was a member of the Blind Association and participated in many camps and other activities including the Special Olympics for several years. He loved to associate with people and had many friends.

He also attended Options and Journeys in Idaho Falls, and Journeys in Rigby and loved the people and activities provided there.

After coming home from Boise, he decided he wanted to be more independent and moved out of the family home into a group home run by Renae and Roy Quenton in Idaho Falls. He lived there for 28 years. He moved a couple of more times after they retired and found a good family home with Pete and Nancy Wadsworth. They were so good to him and he felt like part of their family. When he became more dependent, he received 24/7 care at Home Reach, centered in Idaho Falls.  They bought a nice home in Rexburg so he could be closer to his sister, and staffed it and found two more roommates to live there.

Bruce is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and enjoyed the Primary program for handicapped members. It seems that everyone who worked with and served him came to love him. We are so very grateful for the good, wonderful, caring people who are so willing to serve others and share their time, talents and love with those in need.

Bruce was preceded in death by both his parents, his little brother Rick, and a half brother Dwayne. He is survived by his sister, Julie Beardall.
