Charles Gene Stibal

December 16, 1938 — January 15, 2015

Charles (Charlie) Gene Stibal, 76, passed away very peacefully at his home on January 15, 2015. His passing was far removed from his hard working, hard playing and full life. As a lifelong rancher, he and his wife, Sandra, raised two children (Sheryl and Guy) along with a large herd of cattle. Their grandchildren had the opportunity to work and play on the ranch in Roberts and Centennial Valley in Montana. Charlie was born in Idaho Falls on December 16th, 1938 to Charles and Mamie Stibal. He was premature and was so small that he would fit in a shoebox. He was tough from day one and thrived as the baby of the family. Between Charlie and his older siblings, Shirley and Fred, the three kept Charles and Mamie on their toes. In the early years, the family would travel from the Roberts ranch to the Price Place in Montana with the changing seasons. When Charlie was in the 7th grade, Charles and Mamie moved the family to Corvallis, Montana. This fateful relocation was where Charlie met the love of his life, Sandra Lockwood. Sandra tells the story of seeing Charlie for the first time in grade school. He was so nervous, he threw up - Sandra was in love. Charlie married Sandra on January 4th, 1957. A short time later, they welcomed their first child, Sheryl on October 23, 1958. As they moved from Corvallis to Dillon the family of three became a family of four with the birth of a son, Guy on April 1, 1960. Charlie, Sandra, Sheryl and Guy kept with tradition traveling from the Roberts place to the Montana ranch every year. The years brought many good times with family and friends with trailing, branding and general ranching duties. Charlie and Sandra made lifelong friends in the Centennial Valley and Roberts area, many of whom became extended family. All the good times couldn't compare to the joy that Charlie's grandbabies brought him. Andy, Jake, Carly, Sarah, Tyrel, then later with the addition of Levi and Dillon; Charlie loved spoiling his grandchildren. In recent years, the great grand children had added to his full family. After finally retiring, Charlie and Sandra moved south of Idaho Falls where they were able to spend time with friends, family, grand children and great grand children. Charlie loved his family and friends along with all the wild things that accompanied his wonderful and full life. He was an extremely tough, hard working person who passed on those traits to his children and grandchildren. He will be missed more than words can express and his family is extremely grateful to the outpouring of love and support in the recent weeks. He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Sheryl (Matt) Bailey, son Guy (Vianna) Stibal, grandchildren Andy, Levi, Jake, Dillon, Carly, Sarah and Tyrel, and twelve great grand children. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mamie Stibal, step-mother Ann Stibal, sister Shirley Stibal, and brother Fred Stibal. Memorial services will held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. A gathering for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday.
