Loving mother, wife, friend, relative, we celebrate your life Mary Jane "Mike" Mateer. Born January 12, 1921 she was best known in this area for her almost 23 years as the Executive Director of Western Idaho Community Action Programs (WICAP), retiring in 1998. Mike had a wide range of work experience before moving to Idaho in 1971, from being the confidential secretary to the man who created the Facility Security Program from 1941 to 1943 for the War Department in the Military Intelligence Division in Washington DC, to ministering for the International Academy of Metaphysics, counseling, lecturing and teaching from 1967 to 1971 in Thousand Oaks, CA. Locally she was the Administrator of the Gem Youth Home for troubled youths in Emmett, a member and past president of the Idaho Community Action Association, and served on the boards of the Southwest Idaho Cooperative Housing Authority and Housing Southwest. Additionally, she was a director for Soroptimist International of Snake River Valley where she was recognized as its 1998 Woman of Distinction. Her dedication has truly contributed to the betterment of the community. Mike is survived by her devoted husband Chester Mateer, step-son - Donald Mateer, two daughters - Mikel Ortega and Stephanie Vaughn, 9 grand-children, 19 great-grand-children including one on the way, and one great-great-grandson. We love you, admire, and thank you! A memorial service will be held in October. A posting of the details will follow at a later date.
