Alan "Al" Paul Courchaine, 87 of Swan Valley died Saturday, October 29, 2011, at his home in Swan Valley. He was born on June 5, 1924, at Winner, South Dakota, the son of Pete and Veronica Landmesser Courchaine. He spent his earlier years in South Dakota where he attended school. He served in World War II in the United States Navy. After he returned from the WWII he came to Idaho and worked on the Diamond H Ranch and met his bride Evelyn Kruse. They where married on October 11, 1946 in Dillon, Montana. After their marriage they moved into Evelyn's parents home in Swan Valley where they still farm and ranch. Al was a member of the American Legion for the past sixty years, and a member of the Snow Romers Snowmobile Club in Swan Valley. Al loved woodworking, traveling to visit family and friends, restoring old machinery, going to auctions, but most of all he loved being surrounded by family during holidays and birthdays. A special thanks to Dr. Maley for his thirty-two years of service at the V.A. Administration in Pocatello and Creekside Hospice for the care of Al.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Evelyn Courchaine of Swan Valley; seven children, Tony (Vicki) Courchaine, Trixie Courchaine, Vicki Courchaine, Cheri (Monte) Evans, Penny (Darrel) Ricks, Tim (Theresa) Courchaine and Angie (Charlie) Bassett; a sister, Betty Courchaine; a brother Joseph Courchaine; eighteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents a sister and brother, a daughter Judy and a great granddaughter Mercedie.
A memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Chapel In The Valley Church, 3263 Swan Valley Hwy, in Swan Valley, with Pastor Laura Baarda, officiating. Military Rites will follow under the direction of the Bonneville Veterans Team. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
The family suggest donations be given to American Legion Post #97 or to a charity of choice.
