IDAHO FALLS - Albert "Al" L. Ratzloff, 87 of Idaho Falls died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at the Gables Assisted living center in Ammon. He was born on October 22, 1924, in Pasadena, California, the son of Albert C. and Edith Lloyd Ratzloff. He attended schools in California but quit school to join the Army during World War II, where he became a Staff Sergeant and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star awards. After his service in the Army he married Bee Hannemann on August 27, 1945. They lived in Temple City, California where he worked for Pacific Telephone Company until his retirement. They moved to Idaho in the late 1980's and loved it here. Bee preceded him in death on November 26, 2008. Al and Bee were members of the Lutheran Church. He loved water skiing, Scuba diving, body-surfing; golfing, restoring old cars, and building ski boats. Al was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle with a crusty exterior and a heart of gold. Al's survivors include a son, Ken (Sandy) Ratzloff, of Idaho Falls; and a daughter, Kate (Fred) Sica of Shelley; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday 7, 2012, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, celebrant.
