Alexander Michael Cartney 1993 - 2015
God came and took Alex home on February 22, 2015. He was getting ready to do what he loved doing most, which was spending a day with his family. He was surrounded by those who knew him and loved him. Alex was born in Rapid City, SD on February 18, 1993 to Rich and Laurie Cartney, the second of two sons. He attended schools in Rapid City, SD, Alamogordo, NM and Idaho Falls, ID. He was a student at Idaho State University studying Anthropology and History. In 2010, during a school trip to Salt Lake City with his orchestra class, he met the love of his life, Madi Wood. When he wasn't with her, he was texting and thinking of her always. They had plans to marry and spend the rest of their lives together. He had a love of books and history, and could always be found with his nose in a book. He read and collected books the rest of us had never heard, nor wanted to. His humor and sharp wit were legendary, and he loved playing pranks on his family, and picking on his family like he had been taught by his Grandpas and Dad. Alex had the biggest heart of us all. He felt deeper and cared longer than any of his family. He enjoyed tracing the genealogy of our family, to know what our history was and where he had come from. He loved animals and we called him the Cat Whisperer over his uncanny ability to have the cats in the house follow him around even when they would have nothing to do with anyone else. Alex is survived by his Mom and Dad, Rich and Laurie Cartney of Idaho Falls, ID; his brother, Adam Cartney and sister-in-law Janae; his nieces Ali and Emma; his nephews Daynen and Ryder, all from Idaho Falls, ID; his love and best friend, Madi Wood of Idaho Falls, ID; his grandparents RoseAnn Cartney and Marvin and Dorothy Mikkelson, all of Rapid City, SD; and his aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandpa, Don Cartney. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD for all friends and family, with a reception and lunch to follow. Local arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls. Online condolence for the family may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com.
