Ann Cecile (Leuzinger) Christianson, 88, of Idaho Falls passed away Monday, January 23 in her home.
She was born September 4, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the long-awaited daughter, of Alvin Otto and Esther (Erickson) Leuzinger. Ann grew up in the Minneapolis area and graduated from Central High School before receiving her BA degree from the University of Minnesota. She taught high school in western Minnesota before returning to the University of Minnesota to complete her MA degree. Ann enjoyed walking, reading, especially non-fiction, and gardening, especially cacti. Ann married her husband of 52 years, George Christianson, on September 27, 1947. Early in their marriage, she encouraged George to complete a PhD in Biochemistry. Ann valued being an at-home mom and supporting her husband. In that role, she was a key catalyst that led to numerous food-related patent awards for George. Their family lived in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Wayzata, Minnesota, and Waterloo, Iowa. After retirement, Ann and George traveled to Zambia, Egypt, Tunisia, and Hungary. During these trips, George volunteered his technical skills and Ann worked with children. Ann moved to Idaho Falls in 2001 after her husband's death. Ann served in her community and was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, where she was ordained as an elder. Ann's church home was First Presbyterian Church of Idaho Falls. Sweet, faithful, funny, gracious, loving, intelligent and wise, she was a quiet encouragement for many. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Donn Leuzinger. She is survived by her son David (Barbara) Christianson of Blue Springs, Missouri; daughter Mary (Ron) Youderian of Idaho Falls; grandchildren Katie (Christer) Watson, Matthew Christianson, Andrew (Annie) Youderian, Christopher (Laura) Youderian, Beth (Don) Carr, Carrie Youderian; and great-grandson Toby Watson. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, February 3 at the First Presbyterian Church, 325 Elm Street in Idaho Falls. The family thanks the caring staffs at Fairwinds-Sand Creek and Hands of Hope Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Idaho Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
