Arthur John Rieth passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on December 22, 2014, surrounded by his wife and children. Art was born Oct 13, 1921 in Woodward, OK, the son of John and Martha Rieth. Art spend his early years there, graduating from Woodward High School.
At the age of 18, he entered the US Navy, serving as a Photographer Mater Second Class during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Returning to civilian life he continued his photography by becoming a professional photographer for Crabtree Photo in Idaho Falls.
He met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Hahn, on a new adventure to Idaho with his brothers Don and Vernon who were following the grain harvest. They were married May 4, 1949, being the first couple to be married in the historical Holy Rosary Church on 9th and Lee.
Through the years he was an active member of the Catholic Church being a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, he was active in prayer meetings, Cursillos, and other retreats.
Art supported his family of 6 by being a self-employed carpet installer. He was highly sought after being the top installer in the area. Art donated a lot of carpet work through both parishes.
Art was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and sharing it with his family by camping, boating, waterskiing, and teaching his sons, grandsons and great grandsons to fish and hunt. He and Mary Ellen enjoyed bowling on leagues. Art was an "All Event" City Champion. In their younger years they were member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle and could clear a dance floor with their Waltz and Fox Trots. They both loved to dance and Art would often lead his daughters around the dance floor.
Another of his favorite pastimes was training his Labrador dogs. Art trained them from pups to be completive retrievers, bring home many trophies. He was a member and held office in the Idaho Falls Retriever Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ellen and his 6 children. Gloria (Gerry) Gibeault, Kenneth (Judy) Rieth, Mary Donnafield, Tony (Colleen) Rieth, all of Idaho Falls, Rosalie (Richard) Lee, of SLC, and Gary (Roberta) Rieth of Ninilchik, Alaska; Two brothers Edward (Rosie) Rieth of Hattieville, Ak., and Eugene (Doris) Rieth of Idaho Falls, and one sister Donna (Marvin) McCall of Hattieville, Ak.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Vernon and Don Rieth and a sister Adele Harvey.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 9th Street in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, celebrant. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2014, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a viewing to follow from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m., both at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls.
