Artis Jean Martin Doolittle, 86, passed away the evening of Thursday June 2, 2016 at the Twin Falls Care Center with her daughter and son in law at her side.
Artis was born September 27, 1929 to A.C. (Archie) and Georgia Martin in Twin Falls, Idaho in the home she was later raised. She was the younger sister to three brothers.
Artis attended Twin Falls schools and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1947. She was a member of the TFHS Twirlers in 1945-46.
After a short time attending Idaho State University at Pocatello, Artis went to work for the American Telephone & Telegraph Co. (AT&T) and remained there until 1952.
On October 5, 1950, Artis married George Doolittle in Twin Falls, Idaho at the First Christian Church. Their relationship began in 1944 after knowing each other through the years both in school and through parents. George was an employee of East Side Market, the grocery store owned by Artis's father. After George's service in the Korean War, Artis and George made their home in Twin Falls, Idaho and welcomed the birth of their daughters, Leanne in 1952 and Lori in 1956.
In 1961, the family moved to Kimberly, Idaho where Artis remained until March of this year.
Artis worked at Kellwood Company in Twin Falls, Idaho in the shipping department from 1971 until the plant closed in 1980.
Artis was an active member of the KimSen Homemakers Club, a county extension group, in the 1960's and The Order of Eastern Star, Twin Falls Chapter 29. Artis was an active member of the Kimberly Christian Church and The Branches Bible Study group.
Among her many talents, Artis was a great baker. Her cookies and candy made for the holidays, her special cake for birthdays and her cinnamon rolls were enjoyed by both family and friends. She created, along with George, a wonderful yard and garden. Many have some of her treasures she either sewed, crocheted or embroidered.
Artis was known by other as Artis Jean, Artis or Jeannie. No matter what others called her, she greeted them with a smile and was always good with names.
Artis was preceded in death by her parents and J.C. (Justin) and Mae Doolittle, in laws. Also her brothers Lloyd, Ralph, and Merlin Martin, nephew Mike Martin, husband George and daughter Leanne Doolittle Spengler.
She is survived by daughter Lori Doolittle Maloney and son in law Robert Maloney of Hayward, Ca., son in law Mike Spengler of Grangeville, Id., three grandsons, Stuart Spengler, Seattle, WA, Riley and Spencer Maloney Hayward, Ca. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday June 21, 2016 at White's Mortuary with grave side services following at Sunset Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Dan Daughtery from Kimberly Christian Church presiding.
The family would like to give a special acknowledgement to Twin Falls Care Center and staff for their outstanding care, compassion and nurturing environment. We found their warmth to be very comforting and appreciated during these last three months.
