Barbara L. Peterson, 56 of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully early on November 23rd due to complications from a serious illness.
Barbara was born to Fredrick and Winifred Langhoff on July 6, 1955 in New Haven Connecticut. After graduating high school she attended Eastern Michigan University, where she received a bachelor's degree in theoretical mathematics in 1978. Following graduation she began her career with the Ford Motor Company. She married Michael Privett in 1979 in Michigan, and later moved to Idaho to begin a successful career at the Idaho National Laboratory. They had two sons, Joshua and Daniel Privett. They later divorced. In 1990 she married David Peterson, to whom she would remain married until her death. They resided in Rigby, Idaho until 2001 when they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. They had one son, Eric Peterson.
Barb was a character. She had a zest for life that was contagious and endearing. This attracted people to her and she had a large group of friends and family who loved and adored her. Nothing made her happier than filling her home with loved ones and laughter. Barb always appreciated a good party, she was the hostess of many a famous holiday extravaganza, especially at Christmas time. She surrounded herself with wonderful people as well as beautiful things; she was quite the collector of everything from antiques to Christmas mice. She enjoyed attending live performances of everything from Broadway plays to the Idaho Falls Symphony. She always incorporated herself into the groups and cultures she found at the many parties and performances attended. She enjoyed traveling to visit her friends and family, in recent years this included trips to Connecticut, Georgia, Montana, Washington and an Alaskan cruise. Barb's magnetism and mischief followed her wherever she went. She was also a great problem solver and she would lend a hand to anyone in need. She loved unconditionally. She will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.
Barbara is survived by her husband, David Peterson, her brothers Fredrick and Robert Langhoff, sister Loretta Paschke, and sons Joshua Privett and Eric Peterson. She is preceded in death by her son Daniel Privett and her parents.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
