Barbara Doreen Shepherd

October 23, 1931 — April 14, 2016

She was born October 23, 1931, in Eden, Idaho to Neil and Edna Whitney. She married her Hollister High School sweetheart Charlie R Shepherd on Aug. 25, 1949. Together they had five children. Barbara devoted her life to her husband and children. After retirement Barbara and her husband moved to Filer. They built a home. They enjoyed planting garden vegetables and fruit. Barbara and Charlie loved to travel and visit ghost towns off the beaten path throughout Nevada. These provided the perfect setting for their love of metal detecting, and the old towns provided great treasures for them to find. Her greatest pastime of all was being around her children and grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Delbert Whitney and a great-grandson Ethan Shepherd. She is survived by brothers Dan Whitney of Nevada, Rodger Whitney of Washington and a sister Eileen Elliott of Boise. Children Kelly (Vicki) Shepherd of Hollister, Grant Shepherd of Washington, Rebecca (Gene) Jacobsen of Oregon, Craig (Madlyn) Shepherd of Twin Falls, and Carol (James) Ruhter of Mountain Home. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. A special thank you to her granddaughter Sarah LuVisi, who tenderly cared for her in the last chapter of her life. Memorial Service will be Friday April 22nd at 11:00 am at the Hollister Presbyterian Community Church in Hollister, Idaho. After the service a potluck lunch will be held with family and friends at the church.
