Berry Durham

November 12, 1934 — October 29, 2014

Berry N. Durham, 79, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at his home in Twin Falls, ID. He was born on November 12, 1934 to Ralph and Elizabeth Martin Durham in Twin Falls, ID. As the only boy in the family, Berry was affectionately nicknamed "Zack" by his three doting sisters. Berry grew up and attended school in Filer, ID. He later enlisted in the Navy and served on the destroyer and flagship U.S.S. O'Brien (DD-725) during times of peace. While in port in Long Beach, CA he met Patricia Ann Stromberg, who had come from Wisconsin to visit her sister, and asked her out for a cup of coffee. On August 8, 1959, the sweethearts married in Oshkosh, WI and began a union that would last for over 55 years. Their first child, Carrie Lynn, was born in Oshkosh. In 1962, Berry found himself yearning for his Idaho roots and moved his family back to Twin Falls, ID. Two sons, Berry Randal and Kevin Mark, were born in Twin Falls. Berry worked a variety of occupations throughout his life, but found his niche as a ready-mix driver. He was assigned the treacherous job of pouring concrete on the top of Baldy Mountain. Berry took pleasure in restoring his ‘57 Ford Farlaine and attending car shows throughout the Magic Valley. He also enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, and hunting in the Idaho outdoors. Berry had a deep love for family. He delighted in baking cookies and sharing advice over bowls of ice cream with his children and grandchildren. Berry attended Living Waters Christian Community Church where he served as an usher. Berry was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Elizabeth Durham, and his daughter Carrie Durham (Mike) Young. He is survived by his wife, Pat of Twin Falls; his sisters, Betty Weinberger, Lil Campbell, and Maxine (Norm) Clough all of Washington; his sons Randy (Angie) Durham of Gooding and Kevin (Ansina) Durham of Twin Falls; as well as his seven grandchildren, Megan, Matt, Mark, Kendra, Katelyn, Morgan, and Maelynn. The family wishes to thank St. Luke's Hospice for the loving care that Berry received. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at White Mortuary, 136 4th Ave E, in Twin Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to The College of Southern Idaho Foundation, P.O. Box 1238 Twin Falls, ID 83303-1238.
