His childhood included several locations throughout the Western U.S. The best remembered homes were in Colorado, El Paso, TX and Garden Valley, ID. He was always a hard worker and the family relied on him when times were tough. He enjoyed horseback riding and frequently that was his transportation everywhere, despite the season. He began farming on his own during the 1930's outside of Nyssa, OR. He eventually rented a farm from Realtor/Insurance Agent Frank Morgan and during office visits for business purposes he met the office manager, Thaddene Jennings, who became his wife, June 18, 1941. They purchased a farm south of Marsing, ID. During WWII he was one of the sugar beet growers who participated in using German POWs shipped from Arkansas to the Intermountain Western States because of concerns over the crop. They moved to Quincy, WA in 1948 where he worked for Pacific Supply Co-Op. He worked for Pacific until an industrial accident forced an early retirement in 1972. In Marsing they began their family with the birth of their daughter Linda. They moved to Quincy, WA where their son Bert joined the growing family. Daughter Helen completed the family after their move to Fruitland, ID.
In 1963 they moved to Rupert, ID and that became their final home. He has been a resident of Royal Villa Care facility in Payette since health issues precluded his living independently. He was preceded in death by his wife Thaddene. He is survived by daughters Linda Osborn and Helen (Bill) Marsh; son Bert L. (Suzan) Osborn; four granddaughters Shannon Osborn, Candi Miller, Billie Thweatt and Jacque Osborn; three great grandsons Carter Bacon, Adam and Levi Thweatt; two brothers Robert and Ross Osborn; and one sister Mae Gafford.
