Bette Lou Burgener, 85, of Bountiful, Utah and former Idaho Falls resident died Thursday, September 11, 2014, in Bountiful, Utah. She was born on April 28, 1929, in Eagle, Idaho, the daughter of Thomas Andrew and Dora Mae Hardy Ross. Bette's family moved often when she was a toddler, following the harvests, until they settled in Santaquin, UT until Bette was in 9th grade, when they moved to Jerome, ID. Bette graduated from Jerome High school and married her high school sweetheart, Dwight Burgener. They moved to Idaho Falls in 1951, where Dwight worked at the site, and Bette was blessed to be able to stay home and raise their growing family. Bette spent many hours on the bleachers in all kinds of weather as she rooted her children on to victory in their numerous sports activities. She was also active with her children's school and Scout activities.
She was an avid reader, passing that love on to her children and grandchildren. She also volunteered to read to children at the local grade school.
Bette loved being out in nature. The family spent many a weekend ‘in the hills'.
She was very creative, manifested in writing, drawing, painting and sculpting. She also made really cute bath puppets!
Bette was a vital part of the church community, participating in Catholic Women of the Altar, Legion of Mary, Cursillo, Tree of Life Prayer Group, healing seminars, Bible study and Birthright. She and Dwight made quilts for family and charity.
Their home was always open to anyone who needed a place of peace and refuge. One of the first things they did when moving into the ‘big house' was to consecrate it to the Lord. Many friends and family were welcomed and nurtured in their embrace. Bette leaves a legacy of love. She is remembered for her kindness, gentle acceptance and patience. Her spirituality touched many hearts. She inspired love of nature, love of self and love of God. Those who were fortunate enough to have been part of her life are ‘mightily blessed'.
Her love lives on...It always has, it always will. She is survived by her children; Michael (Barbara) Burgener, Mark (Joyce) Burgener, Susan Burgener (Steve Rehnberg), Joe (Elaine) Burgener, Sherri Burgener, and Claudia Forshey (Dan's widow); 20 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Opal Aslett, Glenda Burgoyne, and Dona Brinkerhoff, her beloved husband Dwight, and her precious son Daniel.
