Betty Joan Bieber

July 4, 1929 — March 30, 2014

Betty "Joan" Bieber, 84, flew away to heaven March 30, 2014. She was born on July 4, 1929 in New London, Indiana, to Effie and James Tucker. The family moved to Idaho when she was around 11 years old. A few years later, they moved to Fortuna, CA where Joan graduated from Fortuna High School. Shortly after graduation, she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Bieber. What a story! Bob lived in Wilder, ID, and upon returning from the Navy, told his dad, Ira J. Bieber, that there were no "suitable" girls around the area. His dad told him there was, but she had moved to Fortuna, CA. Ira had seen Joan sing in church and said "I want her for my daughter-in-law." After obtaining her address, Bob began to write then made some mad dashes to Fortuna. The rest is history. On June 27, 1948 they were married in Fortuna, CA. Bob moved Joan back to Idaho, where they raised their family. Bob passed away in 1973 at the young age of 46. In 1979 Joan moved to Nashville, TN, where her son, Tom lived at the time. She worked for Methodist Publishing House for many years, retiring in 2001 at the age of 72. In 2003, she moved to Lynnwood, WA, to be near her daughter Sharon, and her family. On March 12, 2012, Joan suffered a stroke, which she never fully recovered from. Even though she was incapacitated, she never lost her sense of humor or her zest for life. She made a lasting impression on many caregivers. Joan was one of the strongest, dedicated Christian ladies that ever walked this mortal earth. She was a prayer warrior of the first degree. She was a pillar of strength to all those around her, especially her family. She, of all people, knew her destination and in the last days of her life, longed to be there. She is now rejoicing with her husband and those who have gone before her. She leaves behind, two children, Sharon Bieber Schwob (Jim) and Tom Bieber (Betty), 5 grandchildren, Rebecca Schwob, Robert Schwob (Angela), James "Jay" Schwob, Jessica Bieber Trinca (John) and Melissa Bieber Cate (David), and 4 great grandchildren, Parker, Connor, Alexis and Sophia. She loved her kids and was one proud grandma and great grandma. She also leaves behind a very special friend, Julie Fields, who became part of the extended family. Julie was an "adopted" sister to Joan's children and an aunt to Joan's grand and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 8 siblings. She is the last of the siblings to pass. She will be sorely missed, but we can do nothing but rejoice, when one of these days, in the twinkling of an eye, we who have been redeemed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, will join Joan in a great reunion in Heaven. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 5, at the Wilder cemetery.
