Betty Jo was born April 14, 1929 in Sapulpa, OK, to the late Opal May Wilson and Edward Wortman. She graduated from Sapulpa High School, later moving to Yakima, WA where she married Ralph Bentz and had two children, Ralph Bentz, Jr. and RoseMary Bentz. A single mother and hard worker most of her life, she worked at Cascade Natural Gas for years and retired from Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Betty was a lifelong member of the Grays Harbor Elks, VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1135 and Hoquiam Emblem Club #291; she served in various offices over the years, including president, secretary and treasurer. She generously gave of her time to the annual Loggers Playday and to the VA in Lacey, WA. Yearly, she organized over 100 dozen cookies to be brought to the Veteran there. Betty loved her family and friends! She made it a point to visit her daughter Rose and son-in-law Bob twice a year, unloading gum, Avon, presents and goodies from her suitcases to her seven grandchildren. In 2007, she moved from Hoquiam to Fruitland, ID to be closer to the family gatherings she so loved. We could always count on her to fill photo albums with sundry pictures of our family reunions in Yakima and every major event in the lives of her loved ones. She regretted having to move away from her special friends on the harbor, in particular Lucy Vest and Jodie Lathrop. She was an avid reader, who loved history, archeology and visiting museums. She was a true rock hound, who had her own rock room where she made rock rings and jewelry. She collected dolls, made ceramics, loved to clam dig on the Washington Coast, crocheted afghans for all her grandchildren and the birth of each great grandchild. We could always count on a homemade crafted card for every birthday! She was a multi-talented woman with many interests. She lived her life to the fullest, traveling to her birth place in Oklahoma, Branson, MI, and her favorite, Maui, HI. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Opal May Wilson and daddy, Edward Wortman; her two sisters, Wanda Schmidt and Edna Anderson; her husbands, Ralph Victor Bentz, Chuck Cox, and Bill Humfrey; and her precious son, Ralph Victor Bentz, Jr. or as she affectionately called him "Sonny". She is survived by her loving daughter, Rose MacKenzie (Bob); her seven grandchildren, Jami MacKenzie, Joanna Simino (Barry), Chad MacKenzie (Shannon), Kyle MacKenzie, Emily Hill (Michael), Isaac MacKenzie (Ryanne), and Lacy MacKenzie; as well as 15 great grandchildren, Keevan MacKenzie, Zavie Baker, Alexa and Dominique Simino, Alexandra and Cecilia Sifuentes, Kolby and Kyra MacKenzie, Skyler and Destiny MacKenzie, Jackson, Makaylee and Whitnee Hill, Kaden and Kysen MacKenzie. The family would like to thank Heart ‘n Home Hospice for all their loving care and kindness. Memorials may be made to the Heart ‘n Home Hospice Foundation, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
