Beverly Faye Alfrey, 78, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 due to complications from a stroke. She was born August 27, 1937 in Englewood, SD to Roland and Dorothy Irene (Dillavou) Merrill. She was raised in South Dakota and graduated from Lead High School in 1955. After high school, she attended a trade school in Rapid City, SD. Here, she met and married Kenneth J. Alfrey. Following their marriage, they moved to Croydon, PA, Ken's hometown. Ken preceded her in death in 1989. Bev and family moved to Idaho in 1977 to be closer to her older brother, Charles. Here, she held jobs at the Jefferson County Courthouse and later, the City of Idaho Falls, where she worked until her retirement. When her children were younger, she was always a Girl Scout Leader and Cookie Chairman. There was never a year when the kids sold more cookies to others than Bev ended up buying herself, because her children ate them. Their favorite places to visit as a family were Ringing Rocks National Park and Promised Land where a favorite memory was loading the station wagon full of pine needles to use as mulch for the garden. After retirement, Bev kept busy by sewing and spending time with family. She especially cherished her time spent with her great grandchildren. Beverly is survived by three daughters: Patty (Porter) Gaston of Idaho Falls; Kathy (Paul) Walker of Rigby, ID and Jeanne (Brian) Walker of Menan, ID and her son Curt John Alfrey of Idaho Falls. She is survived by 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two grand-daughters: Jennifer Walker and Beth Morris; sisters: Patricia Irene and Ellen Jane; and her brothers: Charles James and William "Billy".
