Bonita Rene Barrick Rule, 82, of Idaho Falls, died peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center. After two blessed days of loving farewell visits from family and friends, her prayer to "be with Jesus" was finally answered.
Bonny was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1930, in Hackinsack, Minnesota. She was the second of three children born to Lowell Roscoe Barrick and Stella Sunde Barrick. At a young age her family moved to Montana to work with the Lobnitz Brothers land-leveling business which her father later owned. At age 6 the business moved to Idaho where she spent the rest of her life.
She married her "high school sweetheart" in 1947. They had two daughters, Susan and Angela, but were later divorced. In 1958 she married Don Rule and two more daughters were born, Heidi and Holly. In 1964 two boys were added to the family with the adoption of Peter and Paul from Bolivia. Their triplet sister, Mary, finally arrived the following year. The family was complete with the adoption of another girl, Terri, in 1970.
Don and Bonny later divorced but remained friends who partnered in raising their unique family. The family was always together for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.
Bonny had the "gift of giving" and taught her children the importance of loving and helping others. She devoted her life to God, her family, her dog (Perro), and anyone in need. These were the loves of her life. She became a "born again Christian" at age 33 and loved to tell anyone who would listen how God had transformed her life.
Bonny always worked. During her first marriage and years as a single mom, she did office work. When her second family was young she opened a daycare called "Bonny's Babies" in order to be at home and still help support the family. When the kids reached their preteens, she worked as a waitress for many years and then as a caregiver.
Soon after that Bonny's own health began to fail. It started with a broken hip followed by several mini strokes. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer, she moved into her daughter's home for over two years before moving into Good Samaritan Center. Our family is deeply grateful for the kind people and loving care she received.
Bonny is survived by two brothers, Jerome (Margaret) Barrick of Rexburg, and Lowell (Kay) Barrick of Alaska; 8 children, Susan (Chuck) Dawley, Angela (Fred) Miyasaki, Heidi (Terry) Hawkins, Holly Rule, Peter Rule, Paul (Maribel) Rule, Mary (Mitch) Bingham, and Terri Rule; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
There will be a "Homecoming Celebration at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Calvary Chapel, 4250 S. 25th E., Idaho Falls. It will be followed by a time of "food and fellowship" where we can share our memories of Bonny. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
