He graduated from Snake River High School and went on to college after his service in the Air Force. He served in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He married Lola Summers in 1954 and they later divorced. He married Sharon Mortensen in 1982 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He lived in Blackfoot and Rigby. He worked for the Deputy Sheriffs Office and was a criminal investigator for Bingham County. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed reading, landscaping, traveling, and especially family. Boyd was a strong, silent, independent, jack of all trades. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Summers of Rigby; daughters, Linda Summers of Rigby, Sandra (Gary) Payne of Ashton, Marilyn (Chris) Moon of Blackfoot, Brenda Summers of Kanab, Utah; step-sons, Brent (Heidi) Barber of Ammon, and Todd (Cindy) Barber of Menan; step-daughters, Melanie Barber of Plano, Madeline (Parrish) Worrell and Shayna (Kellen) Harrison, both of Idaho Falls; sister, Carol Rupe of Blackfoot; brothers, Gene Summers of Pocatello and Larry (Martha) Summers of Silver Spring, Maryland; thirty-three grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Fern Summers, four sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Ross Baxter, officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
