Boyd Andrew Tarter, 68, was born a curly tow headed mischief maker on Nov. 18, 1944, in Council, ID to Kelley and Viola Tarter. He graduated from Council High School in 1963 and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1963 to 1967 in Texas, Mississippi, Japan, Okinawa, New Mexico, and Thailand; which was his last duty station and where he joked that he ran the Viet Nam War as a radio operator in Communications Squadron. Boyd thoroughly enjoyed his travels and commitment to the Air Force. On April 21, 1966, he married Susan Parks in Boise, ID. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Brenda, and five years later a son Kelly. "Boyd the Barber" owned Boyd's Barber Center in Payette from 1973 to 2009. Boyd loved being a barber, loved to hunt and fish, and, most of all, loved to entertain his clientele with stories of his adventures. Boyd is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Brenda and Jim Massey and grandchildren, Drew, Sarah, and Christian, of Lakeland, FL; his son, Kelly and LuDon Tarter and two grandsons, Cody and Garrett, of Meridian; a brother Bill and Deanna Tarter and two nieces, Kim and Bob Hardgrove, of Boise, and Jana "JJ" and Karl Malott of Nampa. He was preceded in death by his father, Kelley Tarter, his mother, Viola Kampeter Tarter, sister, Joanne Tarter, and stillborn grandson Tarter. Boyd passed away June 13, 2013, at home. He will be cremated and no services are planned per his wishes. A memorial stone will be placed in the Meridian Cemetery near his parents. A celebration of Boyd's life will be held Wednesday, June 19th, at 4 p.m., at the American Legion Hall 300 S. Iowa Ave., Payette, ID. Dress code is hunting, fishing, or Hawaiian shirt attire for a casual pot luck. Please come and share pictures, memories, and stories.
