Charles Albert Phillips

August 6, 1944 — March 20, 2014

Charles Albert Phillips, 69, passed away in Ontario, OR on March 20, 2014. He was born in Klamath Falls, OR, the son of Joe and Emma (Johns) Phillips. He graduated from Henley High School in Klamath Falls and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Oregon College. Following graduation he married Judy Ackley on June 17, 1967. He spent a year in Vietnam after being drafted in 1968. Charles received the Army Commendation Medal for Valor. Upon his return from Vietnam and until his retirement he worked for the United States Forest Service as a Wildlife Biologist for the Fremont, Siuslaw and Wenatchee National forests in Lakeview, OR, Corvallis, OR and Cashmere, WA. He loved spending time in the forest and spent countless hours camping, hunting and fishing. While living in Cashmere, the Phillips orchard/farm was awarded the Conservation Farm of the Year. He was instrumental in introducing controlled burning to the U.S. Department of Forest Service. After retiring in 1999, Charles and Judy moved to Weiser, ID near Mann Creek where they built a home. Charles started an orchard and enjoyed building ponds on their property. They kept busy landscaping, growing a garden and raising chickens. He was an avid reader and loved a good game of Cribbage or card game of Hand and Foot with his wife or grandkids. His love for his family was always evident. The prayers of his family were answered on Aug. 16, 2010 when Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This day marked a change in Charles and the way he lived the rest of this life. Compassion was a trademark of his character and he became even more so after his salvation. He was baptized by Pastor Mike Allen on Dec. 26, 2010 in the Payette Church of the Nazarene where he regularly attended. Charles spent the last few months of his life at the Dorian Place Assisted Living in Ontario, OR where he enjoyed getting to know and bringing joy to his fellow residents. Special thanks go to the dedicated staff at Dorian and the wonderful caregivers from Heart ‘n Home Hospice.
