Chester Raleigh Mateer, 93, of Emmett, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at home. Devoted husband, father, brother, friend, relative, we will miss you, Chester Raleigh Mateer, born September 20, 1921. Chet was a World War II Veteran serving in the submarine division of the Navy for six years, on the submarine Tarpon. In California he worked as an electronics engineer. Moving to this area in 1972 he took up farming and later opened a real estate brokerage firm called New Horizons Realty in New Plymouth. He was a long time Mason, a member of the El Korah Clown Unit as well as memberships in other men's fraternities, and was a supporter of the Shriner's Hospital for Children. He also volunteered on the QRU (Quick Response Unit) in New Plymouth. Chet is survived by his son, Donald Mateer; two step daughters, Mikel Ortega and Stephanie Vaughn; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; many friends and acquaintances; and his dog Sunny.
