Chester David Mechling (92) of Idaho Falls passed away Saturday, March 16th, 2024 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Chester was surrounded by his loving family and passed peacefully.
Chester was born August 20th, 1931 to Alfred Lloyd Mechling and Emma Mary Dhaivetter in Mishawaka, Indiana.
He married Lydia Louise Ludwig on November 28, 1953 and together they raised 7 children. Chester spent many years in the United States Navy, where he fought in the Korean War and earned 2 purple hearts. He eventually went into the Navy Reserves, where he earned the rank of senior master chief before retiring.
Chester worked many jobs over the years, which included General Electric and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he was Chief of Operations and Engineering before retiring there. He spent time traveling the country with his wife to visit his children, then was convinced to go back to work at the INEL for a few years in a security position.
Chester loved fishing and camping. Yard work and gardening which he took great pride in.
Chester took care of his wife Lydia who was suffering from COPD, until her death in 2019, and his daughter Heidi who passed in 2020 from long term effects of diabetes.
Chester was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Emma Mechling, wife Lydia Mechling, son Jeffery Mechling, daughter Heidi Mechling, and a sister Beatrice Chester.
Survived by: daughter Denise (Archie) Ioannides, son David Mechling, daughter Cheryl Mechling, daughter Lisa (Jerry) Streetman, son Scot (Lissette) Mechling, 14 grand children and 18 great grand children. Viewing will be held on Monday March 25 at Buck-Murphy Funeral Home at 12:00 PM with the service to follow at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Fielding Memorial Cemetery following the service.
