Cora Jane "Corky" Geoghegan

September 24, 1924 — April 29, 2014

.Cora Jane "Corky" Geoghegan, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went peacefully to meet The Lord on April 29, 2014. She was 89 years old. Cremation was under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Corky's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Corky was born in Marysville, WA Sept. 24, 1924 to Edith Wayne Hall and Willard A. Hall, the youngest of four children. The family later moved to Payette, ID. After graduation from Payette High School in 1943, she went on to Seattle, WA to work as a forklift operator at Boeing Aircraft. She met a military man, Harold "Pete" Geoghegan, while singing in a bar in Seattle and they were married. They remained in the state of Washington for several years with two children, Steve and Sandy. Corky was employed in Olympia as a Book Mobile Librarian for many years. After a military transfer to Utah, a third child, Richard, arrived. Four years later another transfer took them to San Francisco, CA where they remained for 30 years until returning to Payette in 1979 to care for her ailing mother. The following year, her husband, mother and a sister had passed away. To find solace in her grief, she became actively involved in The Church of the Nazarene and volunteered for several organizations including WICAP, Oregon Visitor's Bureau and Hospice as well as delivering food to those in need. Because of her lengthy time and devotion to volunteer work, Corky received many awards for her service. Her "Hallmark" was helping people. Corky is survived by her children, Steve (Lynda) Geoghegan of Napa, CA, Sandy Murphy and Rich Geoghegan of Payette, ID as well as four grandchildren, Desiree, Ryan, Jennifer, Daniel and two great-grandchildren, Bruce and Daniel. In her last days, her family grew to include a wonderful "bunch" from Heart ‘n Home Hospice in Fruitland, ID. Corky was a unique person that could only be described by her dear friend Dot, who said "Corky knew no strangers!" At Corky's request there will be no formal service but a Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 12th at 6 p.m., at the Church of the Nazarene, Payette, ID.
