Dale Eugene Carlson, 91, of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away early Monday morning, September 8, 2014 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Dale was born on April 7, 1923 in Idaho Falls, Idaho the son of Emil and Lillie Lindgren Carlson. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls; graduating from Idaho Falls High School. In January of 1943, Dale entered the U.S. Army at Fort Douglas, Utah. He served his country proudly until he was Honorable Discharged in 1946. Dale married Gwendolyn Dalling on August 19, 1942 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together they raised four children:; Barry, Dennis, Laurie and Barbara. Gwen passed away in 2012. Dale worked for over 34 years for the US Postal Service serving as the Assistant Postmaster in Idaho Falls for many years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and playing golf. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as other community organizations through his life. Dale is survived by his children, Barry (Nancy) Carlson of Idaho Falls; Laurie Ann (Mike) Bickley of Pocatello; Barbara (Darrell) Byerley of Idaho Falls and his daughter-in-law, Karen Carlson. Dale was the proud grandfather to his 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gwen; his son, Dennis Carlson; and his brothers, Vernon Carlson, Herbert Carlson and sister, Florence Criddle Flarety as well as two grandchildren, Kari and Jeff Carlson, children of Dennis and Karen Calrlson. A celebration of Dale's life will be held as a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Family will greet friends on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home. Military honors by the Idaho National Guard. Services are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 East 17th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, Dale suggested memorials be given in his name to the Primary Children's Hospital, 100 Mario Capeechi Drive, Salt Lake City , UT 84113 of the Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
