Born March 30, 1943 in Phoenix, Arizona, Dan was the first son of Quentin James and Maxine Bailey Tobin. His early childhood was spent living with his mother, aunt, and grandmother in Phoenix while his father served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre. Following the war, Dan and his parents returned to Idaho Falls where he spent the remainder of his life. Dan graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1961, and married his Junior High sweetheart, Janet Day in 1962. Two children were born to this marriage, Ted James, and Angela Louise. He and Janet enjoyed 50 years of marriage before Janet's untimely death from pancreatic cancer in 2012. Dan worked in the family business, Tobin Dry Cleaners; as a clothing salesman at Green's; and for many years as a top salesman for Bennett's and Porter/Devoe Paint Company. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. Many wonderful years were spent at the family cabin on Henry's Lake, where he and Janet entertained family and friends.
Dan enjoyed many other sports including golf, pool, bowling, and skiing. He loved a good game of cards, a cold beer, and music played loudly. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, an infant brother and sister, and his black lab Shiner. Survivors include his son Ted (Jody Brewer) Tobin of Manhattan, Montana; daughter Angie Tobin (Rich Hurley) of Firth, Idaho; sisters Kathy (Larry, deceased) Yorgensen, and Marilyn (Ron) Paarmann of Idaho Falls; granddaughters Lydia Tobin of Manhattan, Montana, Chelsey Ririe of Inkom, Idaho and Ali Harris, currently serving in the U.S. Navy in Illinois; grandson Chase Gokey of Idaho Falls; and two great grandsons. He also leaves behind a large clan of Tobins who will miss him dearly. Dan never recovered from Janet's passing. We hope he has found peace and they are together again. A private family service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com.Dan James Tobin, 72, passed away at his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho on July 25, 2015.
