Darrell Livingston Newcomb, 84 of Idaho Falls died Thursday, August 25, 2011, at his home in Idaho Falls under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. He was born on February 11, 1927, at Ashton, the son of Dell L. and Henrietta M. Atzbach Newcomb. Darrell spent his earlier life in Ashton until moving with his family to Roberts at the age of thirteen where he graduated from high school. After graduating he joined the United States Army serving during WWII. After the war he married the love of his life Loretta Lord on June 24, 1951, in Idaho Falls. In June of 1951 Darrell started working for the AEC and retired from the DOE in 1983. He was a life member of the Elk's Lodge BPOE 1087 and the VFW Post #2146. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and reading western novels. Darrell was a loving son, husband, father and grand father, who was a wonderful provider and help to his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lorretta Newcomb, of Idaho Falls; two sons, DeLayne L. (Kathy) Newcomb of Irwin, and Brian D. (Tami) Newcomb, of Idaho Falls; one daughter, Sheri L. (Paul) Hansen of Idaho Falls; two granddaughters, Misty Hansen (Cody) DuPont of Dundee, Oregon, and Michelle Hansen of Emmett. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Boltz.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011, at the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Graveside Rites are under the direction of the Bonneville Veterans Team and the Elk's Lodge BPOE 1087.
