Darwin was born on November 9, 1922, at the family home in Taylor, Idaho, to Sydney and Maudie Hansen. He attended Shelley High School. He married Belva Hansen on July 23, 1951 in Idaho Falls. He worked as a painter and construction laborer. He was a member of Laborers Local #155 for 58 years. He lived in Idaho Falls in the same house for 64 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Army during WWII as a Private First Class, in the Philippines and Korea as a military policeman. He received the following decorations and citations; Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Darwin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his grandkids. He was an avid outdoorsman who was a hard worker and offered a helping hand to anyone in need and who loved to tease, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Belva McInelly Hansen; daughter, Valerie (Calvin) Schlafke of Hazel Green, Alabama; sons, Darwin D. (Sonja) Hansen, Jerry Mac (Linda) Hansen, and Paul A. (Sheri) Hansen, all of Idaho Falls; sisters, Margene (Glen) McInelly, and LaRea (Dave) Walton, both of Idaho Falls; brothers, Lyle Hansen, LaNiel Hansen and DeLane Hansen, all of Idaho Falls; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Sydney and Maudie Hansen, daughter Darla J. Hansen Johnson, twelve brothers and sisters, and two grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at The LDS 3rd Ward, 2025 Jenny Lee in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Paul Ziel, officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 - 10:50 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Goshen Cemetery, Goshen, Bingham County, Idaho. Military Rites will be conducted by the Bonneville County Veterans Team. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to Encompass Home Health and Hospice, 3686 Washington Parkway, Idaho Falls, ID 83404.
