Dennis was born in Idaho Falls to Dale and Gwen Carlson. He attended schools in Idaho Falls, including graduating from Idaho State University. He worked for over thirty years as an Electronic Engineer for INEL. Although Dennis enjoyed his profession, he loved retirement even more. He took full advantage of retirement, and was able to do the many things he loved for several years before being diagnosed with cancer in 2009. Dennis had a great love of knowledge and a great deal respect for our earth. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and geology. He was an avid gardener and loved to feel the soil in his hands. Denis loved genealogy, and felt a deep appreciation for his Swedish Ancestry. Dennis loved the Gospel and strove always to follow the Savior's example. He was a man of true integrity. He believed it was his responsibility to give more to any situation than he took. Throughout his life, he held and honored many ward and stake callings within his church. By far, his favorite was the years he spent officiating in the Idaho Falls temple. He loved our country and all that its liberty represents and stands for. But most of all, Dennis loved his family and was very proud of the people they have become. Dennis is survived by his wife, Karen Carlson, his father, Dale Carlson, his children, Wendy (Thad) Skinner, Jerry (Jennifer) Carlson, Christina (Benjamin) Brown, and Masami (Mike) Smith, who he loved and considered a daughter, and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by, his mother, and two children Kari and Jeffrey Scott Carlson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at the LDS Chapel, located at 3195 S. Holmes Avenue in Idaho Falls, with Bishop's Counselor, Roger Christensen, officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
