Don Garry Allen was promoted to the presence of God on July 21, 2016. He was born on September 11, 1944 in Wenatchee, WA to Ivan and Ruth Allen. He grew up working in orchards and caring for his family's livestock. When he was 13, he trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior while at church camp. He kept that commitment throughout his life. As a young adult, he trucked fruit to Montana in summers during his college years. He spent 18 months on active duty with the US Navy Reserve during Vietnam and toured the South Pacific. Upon his return, he graduated from Washington State University with a degree in livestock production. He then married Nancy Wade in 1971 and gladly gave up trucking fruit. They completed the Grad (certificate) program at Multnomah School of the Bible in 1973. He and Nancy became area missionaries with American Missionary Fellowship and moved to the Ontario area where he put down life-long roots. Don and his family were members of Treasure Valley Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, horses, hunting, gardening, collecting rocks, Creation Science field trips, and playing with young children. He loved helping friends get their winter firewood, or assisting them in other ways. He found a long-term career in the Oregon State Highway Department, and retired in 2006. In his retirement, he realized his dream of owning his own property and enjoyed the hobby farm until his passing. Don lived his life in quiet faithfulness to God.
He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 45 years; children Nathaniel (Abigail), Amy, and Laura (Philip) Overlin and their children Anne, Isabella, Jonathon, and one soon to arrive; his siblings Joan (Jesse) Eblen, Mary Evans, Paul (Linda) Allen and Doug Allen; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 26, at 2 pm at Treasure Valley Baptist Church, Ontario, OR. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Foundations In Genesis of Idaho (FIGI) or Treasure Valley Christian School, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661. Condolences may be made to Don's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.
