Don was born in Idaho Falls on October 21, 1936 to Ray E. and Gladys R. Collins. He was raised and attended school in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High School. He attended Vocational Technical College after graduation. He married Sharon Winther, and they were later divorced. In 1978 he married Karen Knitter in Galloway, Wisconsin. Don worked at Basic American Foods for 33 years. He and Karen then became the owner/operators of Riverside Greenhouse in Blackfoot, which they ran for 25 years. Don was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Calvary Chapel, both in Idaho Falls. He was a devoted husband; father and grandfather, always ready to help anyone in need. He loved to hunt and fish, garden, 4 wheeling, and traveling. He was be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was a devoted Christian and knew The Lord is his Savior. He is survived by his wife Karen, his children, John (Judy) Collins, Boise, Id; Bryan of Idaho Falls, Deborah (Scotty) Krick of Ririe; and Nicole Hale of Appleton, Wisconsin; sisters, Jerry (Ken) Strom and Marge Wheeler of Idaho Falls, and Alice (Ray) Clovis of Boise; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and Brother Gilbert and Wilbur Collins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Calvary Chapel, 4250 S. 25th E. in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Rick Brown officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E 17th St, Idaho Falls and at the church one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery in Ammon.Don Jay Collins, 74 of Idaho Falls passed away at his home on Wednesday October 5, 2011.
