Donald Dean Evans

June 11, 1939 — January 10, 2014

Donald Dean Evans, 74, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at 12:40 p.m. at the VA Community Living Center in Boise after getting pneumonia and a partial hip replacement. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Don's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com. Don was born in Hillsboro, OR but was raised in Strong City, KS where he graduated in 1958. He enjoyed playing high school basketball and was very talented. After high school he moved to Payette, ID where his parents were living. Don proudly served in the Army from 1962 to 1964. At a young age Don learned to fish with his sister Jerry and they would go to the Cottonwood Dam often together, hand in hand. This love for fishing and the outdoors continued when he moved to Idaho. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, especially with mom, dad, and his friends. He was proud when he was able to shoot his first elk and, once, a one of a kind red deer plus many game birds. Don also rode broncos and his love for horses continued at the race track with his brother, Bob. But one of his most special memories was just playing cards and dominos with his mom and dad and anyone else who could compete with his sharp mind. He gained many true friends along the way that have been by his side, namely Joe Sands, John C., Richard and Gus Sherer. Don was employed at various jobs in his life, starting with working with his Dad at Inter Mountain Gas then onto Wells & Davies, American Fine Foods, bartender and even a cook on an oil rig off the coast of Louisiana.
Don's living posterity are, his son Kerry Dean Evans; daughters Shawn Green, Brook Lynn, Amber Ann Hanson, Holly Weeks, and a step son Clint Vernon Post; a brother Joe and Arlene Evans; two sisters Jerry Mansfield and Bill, Barbara and Steve McMahon; 14 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Putman and Eva Alberta (Smith) Evans; his brothers William George Evans and Robert Eugene Evans; and a daughter Brenda Kaye (Evans) Kaylor.
