Donna Aldrich, 79 of Idaho Falls passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the Pinebrook Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls. She was born on November 6, 1933 in Fresno, California to Donald & Perry Craig Williams. Donna was born to ride horses! From an early age, she enjoyed competitive riding, showing in English pleasure riding. She also loved trail riding and the great outdoors. She later went on to raise Appaloosa horses and beef cattle. She was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club for 14 years. Donna always said she was born a century too late, likening herself to Calamity Jane of the Old West. From Colorado to California, she explored old farms and ranches, collecting relics of days gone by, which gave her home the feeling of the Old West Frontier. She also visited many historical sites, often on horseback, including the old hunting route the Nez Perce Indians followed to escape the U.S. Cavalry. Donna's pioneer spirit was also reflected in numerous, interesting jobs. She'd had her heart set on being a large-animal vet, but her diminutive size made that difficult. Instead, she did just about everything else; from working at a bank, to being a mail carrier, to inspecting tiles for the Space Shuttle while working for EG&G. She never lost her love for animals, though, and spent most of her ‘free' time caring for God's beautiful creatures. Donna is survived by her sons, Eugene DiMaggio and Michael (Machell) Aldrich and 2 grandchildren, Wesley and KJ Aldrich. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, with whom she is now reunited and no doubt trail riding in heaven. She also has three step-grandchildren, Courtney, Ashley and Bryce and she has a beautiful step great-grandchild Hallie. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Deacon Chris Reilly, celebrant.
Happy trails mom (grandma). We love you and miss you!
