She attended schools in the Hazelton area and graduated from Hazelton High School in 1943. Doris married Don Crumrine on May 7, 1946. Doris held many jobs; working in the potato harvest, waiting tables at Grace's Café, clerking at the liquor store and Mike's Market, and finally spending 26 years as a Rural Mail Carrier. She retired from the Post Office in 1988.
Doris' enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, cooking, bowling, fishing, canning, and playing baseball in high school. If she wasn't out working in her garden, then she was in her kitchen baking cookies or making strawberry jam. You knew you were special if she gave you strawberry jam, molasses cookies, peanut brittle or home-made tomato soup. Doris was a strong, loving, caring woman who was never idle. She was a friend to many and like a second mom to numerous nieces and nephews.
Some of Doris' fondest memories were a trip to Kansas with Calvin, Carla, Carma and Charlotte to visit family and her birthplace, and a trip to Seattle with her 5 children and their spouses to attend a Mariners game. She always loved being there for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's special events and activities. Doris volunteered at the Silver and Gold Senior Center in Eden and she worked as a volunteer at the Office on Aging thru CSI for 25 years. She was presented the Brightest Star award from Governor Otter for her volunteer work in 2011. Doris thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Friendship Club.
