Doris was born on December 19, 1930, in Andes, Montana, the daughter of Lee Samuel and Mary Helen Pederson Palmer. Doris was born on a farmstead in rural Richland County, Montana. While school was in session she would live with her mother in town. During the Spring and Summer she would live out on the farmstead tending to the orphan lambs and working as a shepherd for the family flock. After graduation from High School, Doris attended Montana State University in Bozeman, graduating in 1953 with a degree in Home Economics. She married Walter Eugene Watters on December 31, 1952 in Culbertson, Montana at St. Anthony Catholic Church, a rural parish where her family attended. Doris and her husband, Walt, raised seven children while living in New York, California, Montana, Oregon and Idaho. They were deeply involved in the lives of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While Walt was working, Doris devoted herself to raising the children and managing the household, working at times as a substitute teacher and in the school cafeteria, once the at-home population of children dwindled. Her pride was in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her faith in Jesus. She was a mentor, teacher, nurse, friend and mother to her children. She was quick to feed visitors, known for her brownies, huckleberry pie and lasagna. Doris loved to visit with friends and relatives. She loved sewing and many a child and grandchild slept soundly in her hand made pajamas. Doris was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and had a strong devotion to Our Lady, praying the Rosary either early in the morning or before retiring for the evening. She was active in parish prayer groups, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a variety of other parish activities until her health made it impossible to continue. Survivors include her son, Donald Watters of Idaho Falls; two daughters, Nancy Wonacott of Nampa and Diane Wagner of Sammamish, Washington; a son, James Watters of Idaho Falls, a son Michael Watters of Fayetteville, North Carolina, a son Samuel Watters of Bloomington, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers, her daughter Kathleen Hootman, and her husband Walter Watters. Recitation of the Rosary will be at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls from 6-7pm on Thursday July 5th, followed by general visitation from 7-8pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, on the coroner of 9th and Lee in Idaho Falls at 11am on July 6th, 2012, followed by a graveside ceremony at Rose Hill Cemetery.
