Dorothy Margaret Fogarty

November 27, 1925 — May 16, 2015

Dorothy Margaret Reilly Fogarty was born on November 27, 1925 in Great Falls, Montana and passed away peacefully on May 16, 2015 in her Idaho Falls home surrounded by family. She was the fourth child of John "Jack" Reilly and Gertrude Nelligan. Dorothy attended Great Falls High where she led the Calgary Stampede as a drum majorette and then moved on to attend the University of Montana, join the Delta Gamma Sorority, and graduate in 1947 with a degree in Sociology. Dorothy and her husband Frank were married in 1948 at St. Ann's Cathedral in Great Falls, Montana and she became a Naval Officer's wife traveling across the U.S. including California, Hawaii, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, and Virginia as she focused on raising an ever growing family. She handled everything that Navy life presented to her including managing a home with five or six children during Frank's deployments. In 1970, Frank retired from the Navy and they both were happy to return to the West where she began gardening, hiking and cross-country skiing. She exercised regularly at the Apple and especially enjoyed her water aerobics class. Many of those she met along the way describe her as a kind, patient, and humble servant of God. Dorothy was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband Francis Charles (Frank) Fogarty, her sweetheart of 67 years. She was also an extraordinary mother to each of their ten children - Tim Fogarty, Peggy McGee (John), Sheila Siatka (Barry Stoll), Pattie Quinn (Dick), Sean Fogarty (Nita), Carol Fogarty, Teresa Fogarty (Steve Florence), Dorothy Lingren (Mark), Steve Fogarty (Michelle), and Kathleen Kittilstved (Mike). Each child was her favorite and she was ours. We will always remember her lemon meringue pie, her silliness, her songs, and her invaluable wisdom - "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." She delighted in her large family and her love grew wider as each of her 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren were born. She was predeceased by her son John Timothy, sister Rosemary Bartlett, and brothers James and Robert Reilly. Dorothy was a 45 year resident of Idaho Falls and was actively involved in Saint John Paul II Catholic Parish. A rosary will be conducted on Friday, May 22 at 7:00pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1690 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. Viewing will be at 6:30pm before the rosary. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 23 at 11:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church with a reception immediately following. She will be interred in the family plot at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Great Falls, Montana. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Society of Vincent de Paul, 805 South Holmes Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID 83401 and Shepherd's Inn Pregnancy Resource Center, 437 Parkway Circle, Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
