Dorothy Marie Moen, 83, of Idaho Falls died Friday, February 3, 2012, at her home in Idaho Falls. She was born on December 12, 1928, in Idaho Falls, the daughter of Fred Herman and Frieda Anna Minna Bolland Heuer. Dorothy was raised on the family farm in the Coltman Area north of Idaho Falls. As the oldest of six children, Dorothy spent her youth in the fields with her father, developing a work ethic that she carried through her life. Dorothy attended schools in the Coltman / Garfield area, and graduated from Ucon High School in 1947. She married Ralph Thomas Gihring on August 29, 1954, in Idaho Falls. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1960. She married Thomas Palmer Moen on August 1, 1975, in Idaho Falls. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2007. Dorothy lived in the Idaho Falls area most of her adult life. She was a homemaker, raising her three children. Later in her life she worked for the Chesbro Music Company until her retirement. Dorothy was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, participating in many church activities. Dorothy loved traveling with her husband Tom across the U.S., spending time tending to her roses, and playing musical instruments, especially the organ for the church. Dorothy also loved spending time with her friends playing pinochle in the "Hi-Lo" Club. Dorothy was strong and determined, with an infectious smile and a great sense of humor. She was dedicated to her family and her faith, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Gihring of Idaho Falls; two sons, Steven (Susan) Gihring of Idaho Falls and Mark (Jenny) Gihring of Newton, Kansas; a step-daughter, Bernice (Kevin) Barrentine of Litchfield Park, AZ; two step-sons, Thomas (Dolly) Moen Jr. of Desert Hot Springs, CA and Mark (Michaela) Moen of Idaho Falls; thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In additional to both of her husband's she was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Edward Heuer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 290 7th Street in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Jerry Reinke, officiating. Burial will follow at the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held Thursday form 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls and at the church one hour prior to the services on Friday. The family suggest that donation be given to St. John Lutheran Church.
