Lucille was born on Aug. 19, 1924, in Merna, NE to Arthur V. and Ida Brown Rourke. She grew up on the family farm and graduated high school in 1941 and enjoyed returning to Merna just last year for her 70th class reunion. She graduated from nursing school in 1945 as a Registered Nurse. That same year, she met and married the love of her life, George; they celebrated 63 years together on Oct. 26, 2008 prior to his death in Nov. 2008. We figure she went to help Dad celebrate his 90th birthday on June 21st. In Jan. 1948, they loaded their two small children and all their worldly goods into an old car and homemade trailer and drove to Nampa, ID. In 1950, in partnership with Lucille's parents, they purchased a farm in the Melmont area northwest of Melba. In 1959, George and Lucille purchased the Presley Ranch on the Weiser River. In 1964, they moved to their home on Adams Rd., west of New Plymouth. During her nursing years, Lucille worked at hospitals in Grand Island, NE, Nampa, Weiser, Ontario, and for the New Plymouth School District.

For several years beginning in 1987, George and Lucille traveled during the winter months. They spent time sightseeing the United States, visiting friends and relatives, and attending events of their grandchildren. Family was always important to her. She took special pride in her knitting and crocheting whereby she handcrafted a gift for each grandchild and great grandchild upon their birth and graduation from high school.

Lucille is survived by her nine children, Art and Sandi Shoemaker of Nampa, Judy and Rich Crowley of Austin, TX, Jeanne and JR Stark of Delphi, IN, Mike and Sandy Shoemaker of New Plymouth, Lois and Nic Guidinger of Caldwell, Dan and Norine Shoemaker of New Plymouth, Marilu and John Simpson of Clinton, TN, Jon and Donna Shoemaker of Mooresville, NC, and Sheri and Carl Main of Boise; brother - in-law Larry and Marilee Shoemaker of Nampa; sister-in-law Dee McIntyre Harrison of Caldwell; 23 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death also by a brother, a sister, and one great grandson.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Corpus Christi Building Fund or the New Plymouth Senior Citizens, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730 Payette, ID 83661.
