Edna Frances Thompson Harmon Gruell

Edna Frances Harmon Gruell, 96, of Payette, ID passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 in Payette. A viewing for family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) Thursday, Aug. 1st at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette, prior to graveside services at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Our dear mother, and friend too many, was born Jan. 26, 1917 in Jay, OK to James and Betty Thompson, attending school in Strang, OK. She married Fred Warren Harmon on Sept. 30, 1933 in Pryor, OK and they were blessed with four children; John Harmon, Ray Harmon, Mildred Lavada Harmon, and Wanda Harmon. Moving to Fruitland in Oct. 1945 they found that the Treasure Valley was where they wanted to stay. Edna took her first out of the home job, with Bridgeford Foods, now Heinz. Edna was very proud of her long association with all her fellow employees. She was honored for her long and loyal service and always wore, with pride, her service badge of retirement from Ore-Ida/Heinz. After 45 years together Fred passed away Apr. 10, 1979. Edna married Eugene "Gene" Gruell on Apr. 6, 1980. Together they enjoyed a great deal of travel and community involvement with Payette's Senior Citizen group. Mostly they loved to visit with Gene's children and families as well as her surviving family members. After 27 years together Gene passed away Apr. 13, 2007; she remained close to Gene's family until her death. Edna leaves a legacy of being the "can do" lady. She was always loving to family and loyal to friends, full of hope, a positive outlook, and a great love of God. She wondered why God kept us here when we got too old to do anything or go anywhere. Edna is now where she told us she wanted to be. Her wonderful demeanor and smile endured until her last moment with a family member, passing away peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by two children, Ray and Wanda and daughter in law, Joyce Harmon and their families; Gene's children and families, Donald Gruell (Phyllis), Judy McFarland, and Sharon Goodnough (Bill). Her husbands, Fred Harmon and Gene Gruell; daughter, Mildred and son, John preceded her in death. Edna and her family would prefer, in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Payette Bible Baptist Church or Alzheimer Research Foundation, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O.
