Edward Vincent Hattrup

After bravely battling cancer, Edward Vincent Hattrup, age 59, passed away May 7th, 2014 in his home in Fruitland, Idaho.
Ed was born the fourth of ten children August 3, 1954 to Vincent Bernard and Mary Louise Hattrup in Cottonwood, Idaho. He received his education in Cottonwood; first at St. Joseph's Elementary before moving to St. Gertrude's Academy. When the Academy closed its doors in 1970 he moved to Prairie High School from which he graduated in 1972. He then attended one year of Vo Tech training from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.
From 1973 to '74 Ed worked as a carpenter for George Enneking in Cottonwood. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1974 where he worked as a carpenter for both Neeser Construction and Choice Construction. In the fall of 1976 he returned to Idaho when his brother, Joseph, passed away. In 1977, at age 25, he founded Clearwater Concrete, Incorporated in Kooskia, Idaho together with his uncles J.P. and George Seubert. Over the years the company branched out across Central Idaho and into Eastern Oregon; expanding to Orofino in 1988, Grangeville in 1989, McCall in 1991, Ontario, Oregon in 1995, and, most recently, Nyssa, Oregon in 2012.
Ed married CaSandra Hobart on April 26, 1986 in Pierce, Idaho before settling in Kamiah. Their first child, Matthew Edward, was born on April 12, 1987. He was followed by Nathan Paul on January 3, 1989. They were graced with their first daughter, Megan Marie, November 14, 1990. Ed and Sandy continued to live in Kamiah until 1991 when they relocated to McCall to start another Clearwater operation. On July 12, 1994, Natalie Elizabeth entered the family. The most recent addition, Noah Gabriel, was born March 27, 2001.
Ed loved his wife dearly (although he sometimes referred to her as "the meanest woman in Idaho") and he was a devoted husband and father. His greatest joy was his family and raising his children to be responsible, productive, and independent people. Although he was a dedicated businessman, spending time with his family was his true passion. While it wasn't always evident, Ed loved to laugh and joke with everyone. He was also one of those rare people who never met a stranger; and would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. It was an unusual occasion when he went a place and didn't run into someone he knew; and it was almost a guarantee he would come back with a story about meeting someone. He had an uncommon gift of charisma and made an impression on everyone who knew him. Ed loved to tell and hear stories and always approached the world with interest and vigor. He was energetic, passionate, stubborn, honest, and dependable.
Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph and his father, Vincent. He is survived by his mother, Mary Lou, and his siblings; Barbara, Catherine, Paul (Janet), William, Peter (Cheryl), Elizabeth (Bill), Alex (Jeri), and Monica (Jim), twenty-seven nieces and nephews, as well as his wife and children.
The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 12 p.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Kamiah, Idaho. Prior to the mass, there will be a viewing at 9 a.m. followed by the rosary at 11 a.m. Fr. John Gathunga will be the Celebrant. There will also be a memorial and celebration of Ed's life on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., in McCall, Idaho at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
