Eliza Phillips

Eliza Willis Phillips, age 99, passed away Dec. 12, 2013 at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was born in Salem, Idaho August 21, 1914 to George Reeve Willis
(known as James or Jimmy) and Jessie Virgin Willis. As the second oldest of 7 children, Eliza learned thrift and hard work at an early age. When her baby sister, Barbara Rae and her mother both died in Feb. of 1928, Eliza at age 13 took over the care of her brothers and sisters. Eliza always loved and cared about her family throughout her life. In spite of all her responsibilities at home, Eliza graduated from Sugar-Salem High School. Eliza married Henry (Hank) Sternberg on October 24, 1934 in Dillon, MT. He died June 22, 1957. She married Gardner Phillips on February 3, 1967 in Twin Falls, ID. He passed away April 25, 1978. She lived in Salem, Shoshone, Preston, Rigby and Idaho Falls. She was active in Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and the Social Order of Beauceant. Eliza loved to fish on any lake or stream and cooked up many a good catch. She enjoyed bowling, gardening and traveling. She traveled extensively all over the world, including Alaska, China, Thailand, Russia, India and Peru. She had a keen memory and quick wit and loved to share stories of her travels and family. Eliza is survived by her sister, Ardella Briggs of Rexburg, ID and her brother, Tracey (Fran) Willis of Seattle, WA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother's Irvin Willis and Evvian Willis; and sister's Eloise Huckabay and Barbara Rae Willis. Also preceding her are her husbands, Hank Sternberg and Gard Phillips. Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at Buck-Miller-Hahn Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery.
