Beloved father, grandfather and brother, Elmer Walter Ehlers of Eden was called home to the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ, on November 3, 2010 after a long and courageous battle against Parkinson's Disease.
Born April 4, 1921 to Walter and Olga Ehlers on the home farm in Eden, Elmer spent most of his life on the farm. Elmer was baptized and confirmed in faith at Trinity Lutheran Church Eden. He graduated from Eden High School in 1942. In 1945, during World War II, he was drafted into the US Navy where he served stateside as a hospital corpsman, Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class until he was honorably discharged from Clearfield, UT in 1946. He returned to help his folks farm and then later took over the operations.
He loved to fish and hint. Once while on a fishing trip at Camp Perkins he found himself hooked by the lovely camp cook, Karen Brown, whom he married on January 12, 1962 in Farmington, MI. With his wife, Elmer increased the farm and added a custom work business. Elmer attended Trinity Lutheran Church Eden, all of his life, where he served as treasurer and elder throughout the years.
Elmer and Karen had three children, Rebecca, Amy and David.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Olga Ehlers; his brother, Marvin Ehlers; his wife, Karen Ehlers; and his daughters, Rebecca and Amy.
Survivors include his son, David (Irene) Ehlers; his grandchildren; Jonathon Ehlers and Catherine Ehlers of Eden; his sister Bernice (Mark) Hiatt of San Diego, CA.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staffs of Bridgeview Estates and Hospice Visions, who have been so supportive and caring to both Karen and Elmer during the past year.
