Emma Neiwirth Barry

June 20, 1927 — September 11, 2014

Emma Barry passed away September 11, 2014. Born in Rexburg, Idaho to Volga-German immigrant farmers Alex and Amelia Neiwirth, Emma Barry was a lifelong Idahoan. She, her twin sister Erma, and their four siblings worked on the farm and attended Rexburg schools during the Great Depression. After graduating as valedictorian from Madison High School, Emma enrolled at the College of Idaho where she met David E. Barry. They were married August 15, 1947. Emma and David lived in Twin Falls, Jerome, and Burley, Idaho, where they celebrated 58 years of marriage and raised six children. Emma delighted in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Emma's greatest joys were times with her family and friends. She hosted many family holiday dinners, presenting the family with tables full of her home-prepared meals. Family events were noisy, memorable, and always included plenty of laughter. Emma and David enjoyed an extensive network of friends in the Magic Valley and in Queen Valley, Arizona, where they resided during the winter months after David's retirement from Volco, Inc. They loved golf, and they were enthusiastic participants in golf tournaments and social events at Blue Lakes Country Club and Jerome Country Club. Emma and David were also avid travelers, enjoying many trips and cruises with good friends and fellow members of the Western Building Materials Association. In addition to raising her children, Emma found time for her own interests and hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress and crafter, loved playing bridge and painting landscapes, enjoyed fishing and elk hunting with David, and singing in the church choir. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood (chapters in Jerome and, most recently, the Twin Falls Chapter CI). Her energetic spirit, generosity, faith, and friendship inspired her family and were admired by friends and acquaintances. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David on August 29, 2005, and three siblings. Emma is survived by her brother Carl Neiwirth of Kimberly, her sister Hilda Goddard of Idaho Falls, and her six children: Cindy Blankmeyer (Roger) of Sandy Valley, Nevada; Ronald Barry (Margaret) of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Gordon Barry (Mary Lu) of Twin Falls; Kathryn Barry of Boise, Idaho; David J. Barry (Bobbi) of Beaverton, Oregon; and Carolyn Miller (Kevan) of Boise, Idaho; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Memorial donations in memory of Emma may be made to the Twin Falls First Presbyterian Church at 209 5th Ave. N. Twin Falls or Idaho Jobs Daughters, Bethel 6 at P.O. Box 742, Meridian, ID 83680. The memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. A private family inurnment will occur at the West End Cemetery in Buhl, Idaho. Services are under the direction of White Mortuary, Chapel by the Park, Twin Falls.
