She was born November 25, 1916, in Halliday, North Dakota to Henry and Wilhelmina Messmer. She was the 8th of 15 children. She spent her early years and was educated in North Dakota. On January 1, 1938, she married Gottlieb "Slim" A. Witt in Halliday, North Dakota. She moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in the late 1930s, and had farmed in the New Sweden area since 1944. After retiring from farming in 1971, she worked for the Department of Energy from 1977 to 1997. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church for 60 years. She loved square dancing and tending to the various flowers and plants inside and around her home. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing family dinners and entertaining friends when they dropped by. Everyone was encouraged to have coffee and cookies while they were there. Survivors include son, Jim (Joyce) Witt of Boise Idaho and daughter-in-law, Marge Witt of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son (Bob), 7 brothers, and 7 sisters. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
