IDAHO FALLS - Ernest A. Hackman, 86 of Idaho Falls died Thursday, October 10, 2013, at his home, with family by his side. Ernie was born on July 4, 1927, in Idaho Falls, the son of August and Anna Marie Petersen Hackman. He attended school in New Sweden graduating from Idaho Falls High School. He lived in Phoenix, Arizona for a short time returning to Ririe to open Hackman Motors. He continued his love of automobiles and was Parts Manager for Imperial Motors until his retirement. Ernie loved touring the U.S. and completed his goal of traveling every mile of Rt. 66, although not all at once. He enjoyed photography, his homested in Island Park, gathering burlwood, and making beautiful furniture from it. Ernie also enjoyed going to the car shows and swap meets, attending several this spring and summer.
Survivors include his nieces, Barbara Ames, LaRita Barnson, Janet Fisher and Deby Jones-Yelman; a nephew, Ronald Beach, and many grand nieces and nephews. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Bledsoe and Louise Bruha; one niece, Betty Wessel; grand nephews Tad Barnson and Mike Wessel. As per his request no funeral service will be held, but a gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be given to the Bonneville humane Society, P.O. Box 2763, Idaho Falls, ID 83403.
