Ernesto L. Cardenas

October 6, 1932 — September 3, 2013

The words which describe Ernesto are hard worker and humorous. If you had the pleasure to meet Ernesto, you would not know of the many challenges life gave him all of which he overcame. Other words that describe Ernesto are dedication and faith. With these attributes, he succeeded in life and brought happiness to all who met him and a family that adored him. In 1950, Ernesto moved to Idaho Falls where he met his soul mate Celia G. Garcia in Rexburg. On July 11, 1951, they were married and just celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary. They raised their six wonderful children in Basalt, where many memories were created and still to this day, we can clearly remember all events. Ernesto loved to work with scraps of wood, and built many birdhouses. He loved his "green house" where he spent time reading and reminiscing of his life. When he entered any room, you were aware of his presence and drawn to him. His sense of humor was healthy and many of us were victim of his pranks but all were in fun. The neighbors got most of the abuse.

Ernesto is survived by his wife, Celia, and his children, Ernest Jr. of Basalt, Adelfa Bauer of Idaho Falls, Victor Cardenas (Julie) of Brighton, Colorado, Lisa (Curtiss) Nate of Idaho Falls, Delia Cardenas of Nampa, and Orlando (Jennifer) Cardenas of Pocatello. His surviving siblings, a sister Nelly Martinez; brothers Alfredo and Billy Cardenas all from Texas. His love for the grandchildren was strong and each child brought pleasure to his life. His surviving grandchildren are Zachary and Mekenna Bauer; Mikaela and Caitlin Nate; and Victor and Andy Cardenas. Grandpa.....we will miss our trips to Kings in Shelley in your brown car with no seat belts. We love you; miss you and thank you for being an awesome grandpa. Dad, your strength, perseverance and dedication prevailed throughout your life. Be proud of your accomplishments because we are very proud of you. You instilled this behavior in all your children, and we promise to work hard and represent the Cardenas name in your honor. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2013, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 9th Street in Idaho Falls, with Father Raul Covarrubias, celebrant.
