Esther Leona Smith

Esther Leona Pubanz Brunkow Smith, age 98, passed away October 7th, 2015 at Caring Hearts Care Center in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born on June 22, 1917 to Charles Carl Pubanz and Henrietta Sackchewsky in Oak, Nebraska. She was one of eight siblings. Esther was baptized July 8, 1917 in Thayer County Nebraska. She grew up on various farms with her family in the Thayer, Nebraska area, and spent much of her time herding the family cows on horseback. She graduated from Carleton High School, class of 1936. She married Carl Reinhardt Brunkow February 4, 1940 in Davenport, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Marcellene Yvonne Lammers, of Pocatello, Marlyn (Linda) Brunkow, of Salmon, and Victor (Faye) Brunkow, of Twin Falls. Carl and Esther moved to Twin Falls in 1946. Esther spent most of her life as a homemaker enjoying cooking, gardening and a lifelong love of collecting recipes. We all enjoyed the benefits of those recipes! She was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Filer, Idaho. She not only helped build the church, but spent many hours volunteering in various jobs. She loved making quilts and embroidering altar cloths, delivered sermon tapes to the shut-ins, and cooked numerous dishes for funerals and church activities and loved singing in the choir. After Carl's death she married Clyde Alexander Smith on November 23, 1973. She helped Clyde run his Filer Appliance business for years. They spent 25 years together enjoying family and grandchildren, gardening, and various church activities. She was preceded in death by her husbands Carl Brunkow, Clyde Smith, and son-in-law Larry Lammers, as well as her parents and all of her siblings. She is survived by her three children, eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren, and two great-great grand-daughters. She looked forward to being with her Lord and Savior and enjoying all her loved ones in heaven.
A funeral will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church 2055 Filer Ave E., Twin Falls with burial to follow at Filer Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park."
