Evelyn Marie Fast

Marie was born on December 28, 1917 in Marysville, Oklahoma to Arthur and Ethel McElmurry. She grew up in Marysville and graduated from Marysville High School. She attended college at Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated with a BA in elementary education from the University of Oklahoma. She married Edwin Fast on June 4, 1943 in Marysville, OK. After their marriage they lived in Norman and Bartlesville, OK before moving to Idaho Falls in 1951. She was a housewife and mother, teaching all her children the important skills for living. In 1963 she began teaching for District 91, where she taught for 10 years. She loved teaching children and was adamant that all children learn. This career was followed by several years in real estate. Marie enjoyed needlework and quilting. She made most of the clothes for her family. Canning the produce from their garden took much of her time in the summer and fall. She also loved to garden, flowers were always a noteworthy part of her garden. Marie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as a teacher, participated in Bible studies and was active in the women's ministry. She was a woman of great heritage and legacy. She loved the Lord, her family and her church. Her favorite saying was "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". She is survived by her children: Margaret (Jerry) Skimmyhorn of Idaho Falls, Larry (Brenda) Fast of Vancouver, WA, Genita (Larry) Angel of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Cecilla Glenn of Vancouver, WA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her son Verle Dean Fast in 1958, and her husband Edwin in 2004. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held on hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home.Rehabilitation Center.
