Evelyn Louise Herndon

Evelyn Herndon, 69, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. She was born on March 4, 1944, in Holland, the daughter of Leonard and Louise Vaulk Weeda. After moving from Holland to Canada where she spent her earlier years Evelyn's family moved to Lakewood, California, where she attended and graduated form Valley Christian High School in Cerritos. Evelyn married Harold Raymond Herndon on April 8, 1978 at the Emmanuel Reform Church in Paramount. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2013. She worked for a time for the Bank of America until being able to enjoy raising her children at home. She was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church and an active member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church helping with Vacation Bible School and in various small church groups. Evelyn loved quilting, sewing, reading, watching movies and most dear to her heart spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was loving and a godly caring mother, wife and the matriarch of the Herndon family who will forever be missed. Survivors include six sons, John (Cheryl) De Koekkoek of Boise, James (Tammy) De Koekkoek of Idaho Falls, Timothy (Patti) de Koekkoek of Lakewood, California, Steven De Koekkoek of Leota, Minnesota, Harold (Amber) Herndon of Lakewood, California, and Raymond (Alisha) Herndon of Idaho Falls; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2345 W. Broadway in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Matthew Swenson, officiating. Burial will follow at the New Sweden Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls.
