Fay Kemp

November 27, 1942 — October 13, 2014

Merle "Fay" Kemp was born November 27, 1942 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Merle Roy and Luella (Tadlock) Kemp. He grew up on a farm in Hansen and moved to Twin Falls at a young age. He attended school in both Hansen and Twin Falls. He always had a hard work ethic and started selling newspapers at age 12 at the Perrine Hotel. He was never without a job after that until his retirement. He worked in many fields including as a welder, carpenter, builder, customer farmer, restaurant owner, and dollar store owner to name a few. He married Laura Stephens on March 10, 1967 in Twin Falls, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. In their 47 years of marriage, they welcomed two daughters. Fay loved cars. His 1964 Chevy was known by every cop in town for speeding and drag racing. He also loved to fish and "piddle" around with his .22 and other guns shooting pop cans and an occasional rock chuck. He loved to cook and was famous for his shrimp salad, scones, cinnamon rolls and fried chicken; most of which were served on the menu at The Big Chief and Fay's Place in Buhl, Idaho, restaurants that he owned for over 20 years. Fay had a lively sense of humor and you knew you were loved if you had a nickname. He was always joking and played many pranks in his younger days. He was also extremely caring and would give the shirt of his back for someone in need. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Laura of Twin Falls; his two daughters, Kristy and Mike Buffington of Twin Falls and Tracy and Jesse Allen of West Linn, Oregon; four grandchildren: Gracy, Max, Karter and Meg; two brothers, Dale and Jackie Kemp of Twin Falls and Curtis Kemp of Twin Falls; aunts, uncles, sibling-in-laws, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral service for Fay will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the 10th Ward LDS Church, 229 Park Ave. in Twin Falls with Bishop Keith Brown conducting.
